Hampden Here We Come

19 October 2012 14:48
Scotland's women are raring to get on the pich at Hampden.

Scotland's women's national side had to wait to get on the pitch at Hampden today as their Spanish counterparts were taking advantage of their training hour at the national stadium. This gave national coach Anna Signeul, Arsenals' Kim Little and Glasgow City's Rachel Corsie a chance to meet the media ahead of taking the pitch in anger tomorrow in the first leg of the EURO2013 play off tie. This will be the first time the women's team will play at the home of Scottish football and they can't wait. Expectations are high for a good crowd to see Scotland get a good start on the two-legged affair. Entry is free so get along for the 2pm kick-off and learn a little about how well the women can play.

Signeul said: "We are really looking forward to the game. It feels like we have only had a short time to prepare but it also feels like a long wait. We will be training on the pitch shortly and that will be good, to get the feel of it. The mood in the camp is very good. We have no injuries and nobody is sick. The weather will not be a problem, we have players who are good in wet conditions and  think they have technical players which can handle the (wet) conditions as well.  I have not read anything that the Spanish have said about us. We have only one aim - to get the the finals in Sweden. We are going to everything we can to get there." The game is scheduled to kick off at 2pm against a full SPL and SFL programme of games which may impact on the crowd at the game. Asked is she was worried about this clash, Signeul said: "Perhaps the crowd will be affected but we have seen across Europe that women's football attracts a different crowd to the men's game. Very much a family orientated crowd, with different generations coming along. Everybody I have spoken to who watched the football as part of the Olympics enjoyed the atmosphere and want to come along tomorrow to experience it again. They thought the atmosphere was fantastic."  Little was part of the GB Olympic squad and won the league with Arsenal so knows how it feels to be part of a successful team. It would be hard to top this but Little said: "This year has been pretty incredible, playing the Olympics and the (EURO2013) qualifying campaign for Scotland and Arsenal. But qualifying for Sweden would be amazing. It's great to play at Wembley and now Hampden. I am luck enough to play at the Emirates with Arsenal - so to play at these type of stadiums is something everybody wants to do. It will be a great occasion."
