Hamilton Need All The Help They Can Get
Alex Neil will be offering guidance to his side from the bench tonight at the very least Hamilton will face Dundee United tonight with talismanic captain Alex Neil back in the squad for the away game. The midfielder's season has severely hit by a hip injury and his only appearance was in the 1-0 win against Motherwell at Fir Park in October - the last time Accies won an SPL game. The bottom club could do with a similar result tonight. Neil suffered a setback after having to come off in the second half of the derby win and manager Billy Reid has bemoaned his absence since on an almost weekly basis. The former Barnsley and Mansfield player may start on the bench and first-team coach Stuart Taylor is looking for Neil to quickly reassert his influence to help the Lanarkshire club escape the drop. Taylor said: "Alex is back in training and we will be looking for him to rack up a few games between now and the end of the season. He will bring fantastic experience, knowledge and leadership and that's something we have been looking for. He might be underestimated by people outside this club, I don't know, but anyone who knows football and knows our squad knows that Alex is a big part of it in the way he commands on the park and the way he leads by example. He holds high standards for himself and other people and sometimes you need people on the park to set those standards. He is quality on the ball, he dictates play and that's something that we need." Accies sit seven points behind second-bottom St Mirren and travel on the back of a 2-0 loss to Celtic at Parkhead. However, Taylor remains upbeat about the prospect of avoiding the drop. He said: "We have always been positive, we are still positive and we are confident that we will win enough games to be safe. We are in the right frame of mind to go and win games. I think we just lacked a little bit of luck before Christmas and just after it but that luck will turn when you work hard and that's what you are looking for. We were reasonably happy with the way we played at Parkhead on Saturday. The first goal was a fantastic strike, a bit of quality from Kris Commons and you have to accept that. The second goal was a little bit disappointing, it was an individual mistake but that can be rectified. We are all looking forward to the United game and we are looking to get back on track."
