Haber Gets Second Chance To Be A Saint

Injury cut short Marcus Haber's loan with St Johnstone last season but he has been given another opportunity to show what he can do for the Perth Saints. St Johnstone have invited Canadian striker Marcus Haber for a trial which could lead to a contract with the SPL side. Why a trial is required after he has already spent time in Perth from West Brom last season is hard to say. perhaps the fact he suffered a serious knee injury in November that cut short his spell is behind the cautious approach. The Baggies have decided not to activate a 12-month option on him which allows Haber to take up the second chance with Derek McInnes' squad which he will join for their pre-season trip to Iceland. McInnes is also confident of finalising deals for another couple of players in the near future. He said: "There is a good chance one or two players will be coming in over the next week or so. Marcus will join us in pre-season so we can have a look at him. He has recovered fully from the injury he received playing for us. He is back home in Canada just now working on his fitness and playing charity and bounce games." McInnes is desperate to bring in further reinforcements ahead of the start of the season but admits it has been hard to do business during the early part of the summer. He explained: "Sometimes we have just had to say no because they are just too expensive. We have made plenty of enquiries and promptings for loan players. But the difficulty is that the English Premiership clubs don't start until three weeks after us. Although it is some concern, because I would like to get in more bodies to strengthen the squad, I am ready to wait for certain ones. We are looking for pace and a bit of invention. We want to add quality at the top end of the pitch." The Saints manager also revealed that Sam Parkin had almost recovered fully after requiring ankle surgery last season. He went on: "Sam will be tested with the rest of the lads and, while it might take him a couple of weeks to get up to speed, he has worked hard on his rehab so he won't be far behind."
