Aberdeen are moving up the gears to start getting their new stadium off the plans and into 3D Aberdeen are still optimistic about leaving Pittodrie playing at their proposed new stadium in time for the start of the 2013-14 season after winning council backing for their plans. On Wednesday night Aberdeen City Council voted 23-17 in favour of the plans, which now go in front of the Scottish Government. The club plan to build a 21,000-seat stadium near Loirston Loch and will now step up the pace in their attempts to get the green light. Chief executive Duncan Fraser said: "There is a long way to go but it was a hugely significant step. The next move now, because part of it falls on council land, it has to go to ministerial officials to review." Fraser said meeting the original timescale was possible, but added: "It's tight, it has always been tight, but a huge amount has been done since last summer."
