Glasgow City returned from the Granite City with a 4-0 victory over Aberdeen, but despite three points and a clean sheet City Assistant Coach Donald Jennow was disappointed he didn’t get that little bit extra from his players.
Glasgow City took an early lead against Aberdeen courtesy of a Ruesha Littlejohn strike on eight minutes and Sarah Crilly added another before the break to give City a 2-0 lead at half time. Littlejohn found the back of the net again in the second half to make it 3-0 before recent signing, Welsh captain, Jess Fishlock capped off a fine debut with a late goal after coming on midway through the second period leaving the final score Aberdeen 0-4 Glasgow City. Jennow said, “It sounds strange to feel disappointed after a 4-0 win however our performance for the first hour is nagging at me. Aberdeen are a side in good form and they have made the trip north difficult for a number of teams, including us yesterday, so I want to take nothing away from them. I felt for the first half in particular we lacked intensity. I think we had to move the ball quicker and press more sharply than we did early on. Over the course of a season there will be off days and if all our off days result in 3 points then I will be happy. With that said the girls have shown the level of performance they are capable of and it is our job as a coaching staff to put them in a position to perform that way consistently. It's the players’ job to then go and get everything they can from their time on the pitch and sometimes that means more than getting 3 points. Four goals, a clean sheet and a victory are good things in anyone's book but I feel we missed an opportunity to get more from the game than that. The last half hour was a significant improvement in terms of tempo and application and that showed in the amount of chances we created in that period. We now have the quick turn-around for Celtic on Wednesday and I'm sure we will all look to ourselves and those around us for something extra."Glasgow City are back in action in two days time, taking on Celtic on Wednesday at Glasgow Green football centre. Kick Off 7pm.
