With the title wrapped up a few weeks ago, today was an occasion for celebration and a first half penalty from Leanne Ross and a second half double from Suzanne Lappin ensured City’s dominance of the Scottish game continued with Celtic unable to spoil the party. Today’s win means that the Champions have now gone an incredible 111 Premier League games without defeat, having last lost in the League back in November 2008.

In the second half we were far better, we were much further up the pitch and started to create numerous problems for Celtic and by the end of the match we were in total control. The win was a great way to set ourselves up for the title presentation, with three points, a clean sheet and three goals against a strong rival and I am delighted for all of the players and staff of the club that they managed to have a fantastic day. We now turn our attention to Thursday night against Standard Liege, with our focus on ensuring we reach the last 16 of the Champions League."Glasgow City opened the scoring on 38 minutes when Christie Murray was fouled in the box, allowing Leanne Ross to convert from the penalty spot. Danica Dalziel in the City goal had to look lively to turn a Heather Richards shot over the bar just before the break and was in action again in the second half to deny Maddy Fulton. Suzanne Lappin, the goalscoring hero from last week in Belgium was on form again today and she rose well to head home a Nicky Docherty cross with 22 minutes remaining. Lappin was on target again soon after, this time connecting with a Leanne Ross cross from the right to head past Gemma Fay in the Celtic nets. It was an impressive performance from Lappin who quite rightly was awarded with match sponsor Perfect Parties, Player of the Match award.Glasgow City are next in action in the UEFA Women’s Champions League, where they face Belgium Champions Standard Liege in the 2nd leg last 32 at Petershill Park, this Thursday at 7pm. With the tie tightly poised at 2-2, it is all to play for.
