Glasgow City maintained their 100% domestic record with a 5-0 win over Spartans today at Petershill Park. The result means that Scotland's Champions League representatives remain 12 points clear of Hibs in second place, with five games remaining in the S

City got off and running on 12 minutes through Ruesha Littlejohn as the striker was played in by a neat Julie Melrose pass before rounding Rachel Harrison in the Spartans net for a composed finish. The home side should arguably have had a penalty as Spartans defender Ashley Nicolson pulled back the shirt of ’s Ashley McDonald in the box, but to the surprise of the spectators in the stand, the referee gave the decision outside the box and no caution was shown. Jane Ross rattled the post just before the half hour mark after a great ball from Littlejohn and then headed just wide from a Christie Murray cross after Nicola Docherty had been fouled out wide. Ross did eventually get her goal, when McDonald raced to the by-line before cutting the ball back for Jane Ross to score from inside the 6 yard box. Half time 2-0. City upped the tempo after the break and they soon got their third goal of the game as Littlejohn slipped in Jane Ross for a well taken finish into the bottom corner. Full back Nicola Docherty saw on effort come back off the cross bar and Emma Fernon missed a glorious chance when through on goal, lobbing Harrison, but sending the ball agonisingly over the bar. Jennifer Callaghan made it 4-0 on 72 minutes as a series of City substitutions combined to score. City showed great pace in attack with Jo Love finding Emma Mitchell with an excellent ball. Mitchell drove through on goal and hit a fizzing strike which Harrison saved brilliantly, but only as far as Callaghan who fired the ball into the back of the net from the edge of the box. With ten minutes remaining City scored again with Christie Murray converting an Emma Mitchell cross from inside the six yard box to make it 5-0.  In the end it could have been more as Murray was denied soon after as Harrison made a good save and then Eilish McSorley headed into the side netting from the resultant corner. A great shot by Callaghan was well saved again by Harrison as she pushed the powerful drive onto the cross bar and Mitchell shot into the side netting when through on the keeper. Commenting on his side’s win and performance, City head coach Eddie Wolecki Black said: "In the first half I thought we were sloppy in possession and nowhere near the standard we have set of late. To be honest, I thought we were lucky to go in 2-0 up at the break. But in the second half we were a lot better in possession of the ball and looked far more threatening and that showed in the number of chances we created. Also by keeping the ball so well we gave Spartans no attempt on our goal in the second half so our defensive aspect also improved. The injection of pace and quality off the bench upped our level and we finished the game very strongly. I am happy with the three points and another win."
