Get The Ball And Pass It

Simple when you say it but Hibs players appear to have forgotten the basics of football. Terry Butcher will not be slow in reminding them of what is required

New man in charge at Easter Road, Terry Butcher is happy with the squad he has inherited from Pat Fenlon and is pleased to see their attitude in trying to impress since he took over last week. He and assistant Maurice Malpas have promised the squad a lot of hard work which will be rewarded on the pitch. The management team will have their work cut out for them as Hibs have lost their last four games without scoring a goal. As football fans across Scotland have seen, Butcher is passionate about how his teams play and he was asked what his initial message to the players had been.He said: "Go and play the way the Maurice, I, and Hibs fans want them to play and that's with passion, energy and enthusiasm. Get the ball and pass it, get the ball forward a lot quicker, make sure that we put the other team under pressure and make sure that we are a hard team to beat. So lots of messages to the players but they have certainly taken it on board very quickly. They have shown the enthusiasm (in training) and they have been very impressive in their passion and energy. I couldn't have asked for any more."Hibs travel to Paisley on Saturday and Butcher has stressed that everyone at Easter Road will be given a chance to impress before he considers making changes when the transfer window opens in the New Year. He said: "January is a long way off. I am not looking at that. I am delighted with what I have got here, I must stress that, I am not looking elsewhere at the moment. I am looking within and saying 'what can you do, how can you improve, what will it take, and what can you give Hibernian football club when it comes to games?' Maurice and I have talked about a team for Saturday and it is up to us to put out a team based on what we will have seen. I will disappoint a lot of players when I name the team but the ones that are named need to make sure they do enough to stay there."
