Nobody likes to hear their team or colleagues being booed. St Mirren and Celtic backroom staff have had to put up with some choice comments from angry supporters apparently unimpressed by the way their side were playing. The Buddies used a novel approach to deal with those who barracked assistant manager Tommy Craig on Saturday by inviting two fans for lunch to show them on a club video the philosophy he and manager Danny Lennon are trying to instil. Lennon has asked fans to get right behind the team ahead of tomorrow's game with Ross County in Dingwall. Despite the unfortunate incident at the weekend, Lennon was pleased to see his players ending their six-game losing run with a 3-1 home win over bottom side Dundee on Saturday to move four points clear of the bottom club. The Buddies manager acknowledged the fans' right to voice their opinions, but hopes they recognise that his players are giving their all, regardless of results. Lennon said: "You hear it every now and again and Tommy handled it well. They are the paying public, the fans pay to watch the team, but we share the same frustrations and I understand their frustrations. We will learn as much from them as they do from us, but the one thing we don't want to hear is boos. The players need every one of us behind them. They are giving their very best for the team when they go out there."
After facing the possibility of going bottom of the table at the weekend, St Mirren can overtake County, whom they edged in a nine-goal thriller in Paisley at the end of September, with another win in the Highlands. Lennon went on: "We were delighted to get the win against Dundee because it breeds confidence. We want to create a positive environment and put a run together. There is a fine line between winning and losing in the SPL and four out of the six games before the Dundee game could have gone either way. The league is unbelievably tight this year, there are only 10 points between the top 11 teams, but we have the incentive of going above Ross County if we win. They have been a welcome addition to the SPL this season. Since they lost their unbeaten run their form has been indifferent but they present a challenge for us. It was 5-4 for us the first time we played them this season and we also beat them 2-1 in the Scottish Cup last season up there, so we will be working hard to come out on top again."
