From Bottom To Top Six

You could never call Terry Butcher someone who is put off by advesity. You would be brave to tell him he will not make the top six this year.

You have to admire the confidence Terry Butcher has in his players. He has told the Inverness Caledonian squad they are not far away from mounting a serious challenge to get into the top six despite currently propping up the rest of the SPL.  Thistle had a chance to get off the bottom of the table last week against Dunfermline but blew their chances which made Butcher an angry man. And you don't want to make Mr Butcher angry. All the players were called in on Sunday to watch a DVD of the 1-1 draw, but Butcher believes eating into their leisure time helped the squad start the week off on a positive note. Only four points separate Inverness and a place in the top six before they welcome second-placed Motherwell to the Highlands capital tomorrow, and Butcher wants his men to kick-start their climb up the table. Butcher said: "We said on Sunday that the two games against Dunfermline are the prime example - we have been leading going into the last three or four minutes of both games. If we had held on to those leads that would have taken us up to seventh and then we can say 'that's a pretty good position to crack on for the top six'. We are not far away and whilst we have had a particularly bad run, we are still very much in contention, still very much in with the pack, still looking forward to getting a good run and climbing the table."
