Friday Night Should Be Football Night
Clubs have to keep an eye out for ways of making more money and Friday football suits Airdrie United
Airdrie United enjoyed playing on a Friday night and are seeking views from their fans as they are considering asking for more games to be brought forward after the success of their game against Livingston on Friday, 9 November. The numbers on the night generated increased revenue of £5,000 to £6,000 which more than offset the increased costs incurred such as the use of the floodlights for a longer period and Commercial manager John Drysdale said: "The crowd in that game was 1,003 and based on earlier home crowds, expectations from Livingston as regards travelling support, and other factors, we reckon this number was 25% higher than might have turned up on the Saturday afternoon. Our hospitality take-up was over 80 and again based on previous experiences, this figure is about double what we might have pulled in the following day. I am hugely in favour of at repeating the experiment over this winter and indeed, if it was up to me, I'd go as far as looking for 5 or 6 of our home league matches to go this way. It is quite rightly not up to me it is up to the fans, and it would be great if they got in touch with their opinions, your comments or observations on Friday night football."
