Fletcher fit and ready to go
Darren Fletcher has found his appetite in more ways than one as he prepares to return to first-team football with Scotland after recovering from a mystery virus that robbed him of his strength.
The Manchester United midfielder, 27, will lead Craig Levein's side out for Saturday's crucial Euro 2012 qualifier against the Czech Republic at Hampden despite not having played for his country in 2011 and with only two competitive games under his belt since the beginning of March.
"The biggest thing was the loss of weight," said Fletcher. "I am not the type of person who can afford to lose weight. The hardest thing was coming back to feeling physically strong enough to play and it took a long time to get back to that level."
He added: "I have had great help from everyone at Manchester United who have been keeping in contact with the Scotland doctor and manager so between all of us, I am back to my best.
"Obviously last season I was desperate to get back as soon as I could but the season ended a bit too early for me.
"I was involved in the Blackpool game at the end of the season and managed to make the bench for the Champions League final but it was a real struggle at times.
"So it was important that I went away in the summer and tried to give myself a good rest and come back ready to go."
