Gary Caldwell admits the shock return of Darren Fletcher to the Scotland squad is a "massive boost" to their Euro 2012 qualifying hopes.
Craig Levein had ruled his skipper out of Saturday's game against Liechtenstein due to a bout of tonsilitis. The Scotland boss had hoped Fletcher would recover for the last Group I fixture against Spain in Alicante on Tuesday night but he revealed that the player will join the squad on Friday with a view to skippering the side in Vaduz.
Levein who said he had simply "made a mistake" in ruling Fletcher out in the first place, is also hoping that striker Kenny Miller wins his battle against his groin injury and Caldwell said: "It is a massive boos. Darren is our captain, our leader and obviously a massive player for Manchester United and us."
The Wigan defender added: "For the whole week we counted him out and didn't think he was going to be available so to have him is going to be a big boost. Also, Kenny is training this morning and having him would be massive as well.
"They both have over 50 caps and they will bring an experience to the team with regards what you have to do to win in these games, so it is important to have these guys available."
Levein caused some surprise at the pre-match press conference when he confirmed that Fletcher would be joining his squad.
"Darren will arrive today and I have not 100 per cent ruled him out of tomorrow," said the former Scotland defender.
"He feels better and he will do something on his own today.
"I have to wait to see him and assess him but if the medical team gives him the thumbs up he will play, if not, he is 100 per cent certain to be involved on Tuesday (against Spain)."
