Fitzpatrick Given Another Chance To Impress Brown

When a new manager comes in, every player wants to make a good impression. Being injured does not allow that but Craig Brown is willing t6o give a player a chance. Craig Brown is giving Marc Fitzpatrick another chance to resurrect his career at Motherwell by offering him a six-month contract to stay at Fir Park. Midfielder Fitzpatrick did not have the best of seasons in 2009-10 tahnks to injuries limiting his game time. He missed the bulk of the season with a hip problem, closely followed by a hamstring tear. As a result, Brown - who took charge in December - felt he could not assess the player properly.  Fitzpatrick  previous deal was due to expire this summer but an offer of a contract until Christmas will give Fitzpatrick the opportunity to regain full match fitness and stake a claim for a longer stay. Lanark-born Fitzpatrick, who came through the youth system at Fir Park, said: "I am delighted to have signed the contract to stay at Motherwell - I've been here a long, long time and built up a real feeling for the club. Ideally, it would have been for a little longer but, in saying that, I understand the situation. I was out of contract at the end of this month so I am thankful I have something sorted. I will now work through the whole summer with the aim of getting as fit as I can be when we return for pre-season training. If I can do that, hopefully, I'll do enough to have the contract extended beyond Christmas." Brown added: "Marc had a horrible time with injuries last season, he was really unlucky. He's a former Scotland Under-21 international who has played 136 games for Motherwell, including European football, so we know he is capable. But with him suffering so badly last year, Archie (Knox) and I never had an opportunity to get a proper look at him, which we will do now."
