Fit For Purpose

When the call came, Derek Carcary was ready

Brechin substitute Derek Carcary came off the bench to help win Tuesday night’s game with Albion Rovers despite not being fully fit. Manager Ray McKinnon was full of praise for Carcary who had picked up a knock in Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Alloa. McKinnon had planned to use him sparingly, if at all, at Cliftonhill. However, with his side one goal down at half time Carcary was called for. Within 90 seconds Brechin were level through Andy Jackson’s header and Carcary slid home the winner with 18 minutes left. McKinnon said: "Derek was still suffering from a knock but we agreed that he would go on the bench and that we would use him at some stage at Albion Rovers. We were one down at half-time and their right back had been booked so we thought we would give it a go as Derek’s direct style of running would certainly test them. That is what happened and he also showed great alertness to pick up on the mistake from their player to score the winner with a composed finish."
