First To Sign On

It makes a change to write about a club adding to their squad rather than releasing players. St Johnstone have become the first SPL side to make a signing since the season ended after snapping up Jamie Adams from Kilmarnock. Manager Derek McInnes moved for the 22-year-old, who was out of contract at Rugby Park. Adams, who can play in midfield or defence, made just one substitute appearances in six years with Killie, with his career hampered by more than one serious knee injury. He had various loan spells at Queen of the South and Partick Thistle and is hoping to kick-start his career at McDiarmid Park. It proved a busy day for McInnes as midfielder Murray Davidson signed a one-year contract extension which sees him tied to the club until 2013. Meanwhile, Peter MacDonald and Martin Hardie were handed six-month contracts to give them a chance to get their careers back on track. Striker MacDonald and midfielder Hardie played little part in Saints' first top-flight season for seven years after their injury-plagued spells at McDiarmid Park continued. MacDonald has undergone two cartilage operations after being hurt scoring in February's SPL game at Kilmarnock, while Hardie required knee reconstruction after suffering a horror injury in a behind-closed-doors game with Falkirk in November. MacDonald said: "I'm delighted to get a contract and I'm determined to repay the gaffer for his faith in me. Obviously, when you're injured and going out of contract, it's a worry but I'll be back for pre-season and it can't come soon enough for me." Hardie said: "Everybody knows I've been out quite a long time. At least my future's sorted. It's now up to myself to prove to people like the gaffer upstairs that I'm going to be back fit and playing again." Manager McInnes said: "Peaso will be ready for pre-season and Martin should be back in September. They have both been good servants and shown their value in the SPL."
