Fenlon Would Like To Keep Griffiths

Hibs bank account does not look as if it will be raided for a deal to keep Leigh Griffiths

Pat Fenlon may have to moved to a club with more money that Bohemians but that does not mean he has the resources to sign the players he wants to. He has had to accept that Hibs just don't have the spare cash to be able to afford to sign on-loan striker Leigh Griffiths on a permanent deal from Wolves. While on Friday Fenlon unveiled striker Eoin Doyle, who will join from in January after leaving Sligo Rovers, as his first signing the manager was aware that Griffiths could be heading back to Molineux  at the end of his loan deal. Fenlon has been on the phone to Wolves manager Mick McCarthy to see if a deal can be done. Fenlon said: "We are talking to them at the moment. We spoke to Mick. I think they're of the opinion if they could sell him, they probably would. We're of the opinion we'd like to keep him on loan. I don't think we're in a position to (pay a fee). It's really between the two clubs at the moment. I've spoken to Mick and we'll just have to wait and see." Griffiths is available again after serving a one-match ban for making a gesture to Rangers fans, which resulted in him missing the 1-0 defeat at Pittodrie. The result means Fenlon travels to Tannadice still on the hunt for his first win as Hibs manager following the abandoned match at Motherwell, and the defeats to Rangers and Aberdeen, despite strong performances. Fenlon added: "Luck goes against you at times. I firmly believe if you keep working hard you will turn that around. We are where we are and there's not a lot we can do about it, bar win games and get ourselves up the table. I think we've played all right. If we can give that commitment, effort, a little bit more quality and a little bit of luck we should be able to pick something up." Tannadice might have called home by Fenlon had he been appointed Craig Levein's successor when the latter left for the Scotland job. However, United baulked at the compensation fee being asked for and promoted Peter Houston. When asked about how fate worked out, Fenlon said: "It's not really relevant. It didn't work out. Peter's come in and done a fantastic job. It's like all things in football. You've just got to accept them and move on. It's a great chance for us to go tomorrow, to try to win the game and that's all I'm worried about." Fenlon's former club Bohemians met United in July in Dublin and the Irishman knows Houston's side well. Defender Sean Dillon is among the familiar faces, having played for Shelbourne under Fenlon. Doyle was a schoolboy player at Shelbourne during Fenlon's spell as manager and the two are now reunited. Fenlon said: "He's scored a lot of goals. He's a little bit different to the lads we have already. It's a good opportunity for him. It's a bit like myself, getting an opportunity to improve himself and better himself. He's got the qualities to make himself a success here." Hibs fans will be hoping he is different in that he scores goals! Doyle, a goal-poacher, sealed the deal no harm when he scored in a bounce match with St Johnstone earlier this week. Doyle, who scored 25 goals last term in Ireland, said: "First and foremost I want to get into the team. If I get into the team I want to score goals and we'll take it from there. I look forward now to the challenge that's ahead of me." Providing international clearance is given and all the relevant paperwork filed, Doyle could make his debut in the 2 January Edinburgh derby with Hearts. He said: "It would be a great game to make my debut in."
