Falling Out Of Love With Football

10 June 2011 16:22
After all the hard work of making it to the Second Division, Michael McGowan has called time on his football career for the moment. Michael McGowan has decided not to join Albion Rovers in the Second Division after he told manager Paul Martin that ‘he was no longer in love with the game.’ McGowan was a key member of the successful push for promotion mounted by the Coatbridge side and stepped out of the game after playing the last 99 games that the Cliftonhill side have played. Martin wanted McGowan to be part of the new challenge facing the Rover but he has declined as he is disillusioned with football at the moment. Martin said: "Michael told us a couple of weeks ago that he was no longer enjoying football and that he wanted to take a break from the game. We had just won promotion for the first time in over 20 years so I was a bit taken aback but we asked him to reconsider. We spoke again on Wednesday and Michael is not coming back for the new season and I do not believe he has anything else lined up so we will need to move on without him. I want to thank Michael for his time at the club and his amazing level of consistency that saw him play all those games in a row. I wish him well in whatever he does now."
