EURO2017 - Why The Hell Not!
Scotland is too small to host male tournamants but we could cope with womens' games
Scotland just failed in the last seconds to make it to the UEFA Womens Championships to be played in Sweden in 2013. This is the closest Scotland have been in qualifying for the finals. Once way to avoid missing out on qualification next time around would be to be successful in a bid for the Women's 2017 European Championships. Scotland, along with the Republic of Ireland, have bid before to act as host for a major championship but lost out to the combined bid from Austria and Switzerland for the male EURO2008 championships. Asked if UEFA would welcome a bid from Scotland to act as hosts in the future, Karen Espelund, a member of UEFA Executive Committee and Women's Football Committee, said: "Absolutely - they have a huge football tradition. They have been taking the female game to new steps. I would welcome a bid. I have to say that Scotland as an association have been working very well for many years now, building step by step on the women's side. They nearly managed (to reach the Euro 2013 finals) but Spain got the last position. They performed very well."
