Early Return For Saints

It is always good news when a player returns from injury earlier than expected

Steven Anderson is on target to return to first-team action for St Johnstone before the end of the month. The centre-back was ruled out for three months after suffering a dislocated thumb in the 1-1 draw with Partick on 28 September. However, he may get a chance to return to action with the U20s next week and could be back in contention for a place in the first team for the busy league programme at the turn of the year when Saints take on Hibs, Celtic, Dundee United, Motherwell and Ross County over 15 days.Saints manager Tommy Wright, whose team welcome Aberdeen on Saturday, said: "Steven Anderson has been getting involved in a bit more this week and possibly could train full contact next week, which is maybe two or three weeks earlier than we thought. Ideally we would like to get him part of a 20s game next week. There are only two 20s games (before Christmas) so if we could get him two games that will help his progress. There is every chance now that he will be involved for the festive period and we had really ruled him out until the first week in January."
