Dons Busy Getting Ready For Next Season

Craig Brown is already working hard to improve his squad for 2011-12 Craig Brown wants Chris Maguire to stay with the Dons and has declared his interest in bringing Coventry's Isaac Osbourne to Pittodrie. Maguire is out of contract at the end of the season but has been offered a new deal by Aberdeen. Brown suggested any change in the offer made by Dons managing director Duncan Fraser and director of football Willie Miller to Maguire could be in the length of the deal and warned the forward moving could be to his long-term harm. Brown said: "Chris has had a very good offer and hopefully he'll consider it favourably. I think it would very much be in his own best interests to remain and progress his career, rather than risk going somewhere where he could find himself on the bench or not even selected. It would be a retrograde step for Chris Maguire to go to a Championship team and end up on the bench." Brown also confirmed Coventry midfielder Osbourne is on his list of targets to boost his squad for next season. The Dons manager went on: "We had him up some weeks ago for a week's work with us and he certainly looked very special. The major problem concerning recruiting him is fitness and we've got to be sure the injury problems he's had over the past 18 months have disappeared. If that's the case we'll obviously be interested in him." Promising young defender Joe Shaughnessy has also ended speculation over his future by signing a two-year contract to remain at Pittodrie. The defender was an unused substitute in Tuesday night's 1-0 loss to St Mirren and hopes to break into the first team next season. Shaughnessy said: "Craig and Archie have been great. They are always giving me advice. They are always trying to help me anyway they can so I am looking forward to working with them over the next two years."
