Diamonds And The Artificial Pitch Are Forever

Jimmy Boyle wants his new players to be ready to shine when the serious stuff starts next week Airdrie will be playing on their new artificial pitch at the Excelsior Stadium this season so interim manager Jimmy Boyle will have a busy week ahead of him as he builds the squad who will have to play on it the most. Boyle’s recast team lost 4-1 to Stranraer on Monday and 2-0 to Queen’s Park on Wednesday. Airdrie face Cove Rangers today and Annan 24 hours later. This intensity is required as Boyle needs to have his new team ready following the release of the entire Diamonds first team squad following relegation at the end of last season. Former Dundee United striker Stephen McConologue and ex-St Mirren front man Junior Mendes were in the team that lost against the Spiders. Boyle said: "I will have a look at them again and take things from there. The Queen’s Park game was a better performance than the Stranraer one but we are really short of experience".  The new artificial surface at the Excelsior is almost ready for use and with Ayr United due to visit in the first round of the Alba Cup next Saturday. Boyle is hoping to get a game organised for early next week. He went on: "I am hoping that we can have a bounce game Monday or Tuesday night to help with our preparations."
