Danny Lennon Has Been Busy

No rest for Danny Lennon since he moved into the manager's office at New St Mirren Park. St Mirren manager Danny Lennon has offered midfielder Steven Robb a one-year deal to stay with the Paisley club. Lennon said: "We have given Steven Robb a one-year offer and we hope to hear back from him on it by next Tuesday. He is away to discuss the offer with his wife and his agent. You obviously can never say anything until it is all done but I must admit that I was encouraged by his comments which for me are a positive sign." It has been a busy time for Lennon since he moved from Cowdenbeath as he brought Iain Jenkins in to be his assistant with Andy Millen parting company with Saints. And Lennon insists Jenkins - his right-hand man at Cowdenbeath - has been given the job on merit. He said: "I was asked if the reason Iain Jenkins was brought in as my assistant was because he was someone I could trust, and that does have a big part to play in things. But to put you in the picture, I didn't know Iain that well. I did know him a bit from both of us being involved with Northern Ireland and I met him on the odd coaching course. When Iain was with Tayport, we (Cowdenbeath) played them in a pre-season match and his style of coaching and the way he went about his business caught my eye. So Iain Jenkins is here first and foremost for what I believe he can bring to St Mirren. He is here because I know what he can do in the job - not because he is my friend. We have built a really good working relationship so that and what he can bring to the club are the main reasons he is here." Lennon is also looking forward to starting his first season in the SPL as a manager with a home game against Dundee United. He said: "We're delighted to start the season with a home game. We know that all the games will be difficult but we'll be setting up to try and take points from every game. Seeing the fixtures I can now start to plan for the first month of the season where we will face Dundee United, Celtic, Hibs and Kilmarnock. I'm especially pleased starting the season at home as the first game is always exciting with it being the fresh start of a new season. It is really great that my first game in charge of St Mirren will be at St Mirren Park." Editor Ger Harley (ger@scottishfitba.net)Admin Team (admin@scottishfitba.net)This is Scottish-Fitba.Net
