Daly Bred For Goals

No use looking back when the Pars are in front of you Some harsh lessons were handed out to the likes of Hibs and Dundee United last weekend. All teams get a thrashing now and then but the real test is how they respond the next time they trot out across the white line. Dundee United have to work to forget the 5-1 loss to Celtic when they play Dunfermline today. Jon Daly is confident the Terrors can shake off the hangover as he looks back on the number of chances created last weekend. All they need to do this weekend is convert a few of them - or at least more than the Pars. Peter Houston's men hare looking to improve on home draws against Kilmarnock and St Mirren.  Daly said: "When you go to Celtic Park and Ibrox you know you are going to get punished if you make mistakes and that's what happened. We have not defended properly for the first two goals and gifted them those goals. We were pushing forward and they hit us on the break a couple of times. We will take it on the chin and move on and try and get three points on Saturday. We would like to have more points on the board but the performances we have been putting in have been quite good. If we can keep that level of performance up, I think we will get more points than we drop." Any side that manages to escape the clutches of the First Division should be taken lightly at the oppositions' peril. First Division champions Dunfermline have recovered from a difficult first 45 minutes of the season against St Mirren to record an unbeaten start to their season back in the top-flight. They will not want to be heading back to the SFL after just one season in the SPL The Pars followed draws against the Buddies and Inverness with a win at St Johnstone last weekend. Daly said: "We know they are going to be a good side because the First Division is a tough division to get out of. They have started well and are unbeaten so it's going to be tough." Daly and Johnny Russell are likely to be asked to lead the line again but both have responded well since the departure of David Goodwillie for Blackburn, one of them scoring in each of United's last three games. The Irishman, who has scored three goals in six games this season, believes Russell will shine now he is in his preferred central position. He said: "He's a fantastic player and I think he has a bright future ahead of him. He has shown great quality since he came in and if he keeps developing at the rate he is, I think he has a great future ahead of him. He has played wide a few times and done really well, and scored some goals.  He has gone through the middle and shown what he is all about. He is a great talent and if he can keep working hard at his game and progressing the way he is, I think he can go on to better things."
