Cup Surprises Still Possible
Not the location of the suggested surprise result I had thought
I asked yesterday if there could be a shock result in the League Cup but did not think that it would be coming at Parkhead. Neil Lennon will have to wait another year to have the chance of adding a League Cup win to his managerial CV. So often a lower league side will have a chance to win over teams such as Celtic in the regulation 90 minutes. However, when it gets close to time added on, the football gods seem to smile on the more fancied side. If the game goes to extra time however, I can't remember too many games that the unfancied side manages to get the goal that makes all the difference and avoids the lottery that is penalties. It was Morton who put out Celtic of the League Cup this year and thanks to a penalty in the first period of extra time away from home. Another combination that is rare in these parts. The magic of cup football is that Celtic will be involved in Champions League football next week when they welcome Barcelona. Lennon will have to lift his players spirits for that home game when they will not be so much in control of their fate. Ruud Gullit recently suggested that Celtic need to find a better scoring touch if they are to progress in the Champions League. It may be they need more than that after tonight.
