Traditions can change when economics come into it

For the first time since the mid-1990's Cowdenbeath FC will not be wearing a Brazil coloured kit as their first away kit choice. Scottishfitba.net got a sneak peak at the new red Cowden away kit last night and the strip will be launched in time for the start of the new season with its first outing being at the Fife club's first away League game of 2013/14 at Alloa. The away shirt, which is predominantly red, with the club crest in the middle of the chest area has now gone on display at the club office at Central Park and can be viewed by interested parties from today (Friday 19th July).A yellow, blue and green 'Brazil' kit will be introduced as a 3rd kit soon but this is the first time since the tragi-comedic "Blue Brazil" moniker caught on locally that Cowdenbeath have played in an away kit other than one that is in the colours of their more illustrious South American counterparts. After the collapse of the Umbro brand and its subsequent re-release under new ownership towards the end of last season the Manchester based sportswear firm decided it would no longer deal with second and third tier clubs in Scotland and England which paved the way for German manafacturer Uhlsport to become involved with the Blue Brazil via a partnership with Edinburgh's Football Nation store.A spokesperson for Cowdenbeath FC said: "We were finding that a lot of clubs in our division were going with lighter colours for their away kit so we decided a switch to red would cause less confusion in the new season. We will continue with our traditional blue and white with red socks for the home kit and those fans who still enjoy The Blue Brazil nickname and want to bring a touch of Rio to proceedings can purchase the Brazil style third kit."The uhlsport GmbH is a German sports goods manufacturer supplying a full range of equipment for team sports. Originally established in 1948 as Haase & Uhl OHG and later renamed Karl Uhl GmbH, the company became uhlsport GmbH in 1994.
