County Just Not Good Enough

Ross County shipped four goals yesterday and know they have to do better.

Mark Brown had to pick the ball out of the Ross County net four times yesterday and admitted his side were not good enough defensively against Dundee United. United were four goals to the good in just over an hour which was enough to cope with the home side's fight back which meant the game ended with a 4-2 win for the visitors.Goalkeeper Brown said: "It's a disappointing result. It's hard to say there are positives to be taken, but their goalkeeper had a couple of great saves. We hit the post twice and had a couple of reasonably good shouts for a penalty. Although we know the goals we conceded weren't good enough defensively, I think there are positives to be taken. We battled back. At 4-0, it would have been easy on a wet, windy day just to chuck it and end up losing more goals. But I thought we battled away and at no stage gave up. That's the positives to take forward into the next few weeks."United's first goal came from the penalty spot in the 18th minute when Brown upended Gary MacKay Steven on the edge of the box and avoided a card from referee Stuart Stevenson. Brown said: "It was one of those where I actually thought I was going to get the ball he was quicker than I thought. Until the last half-second I thought I'd get the ball, and then he produced the burst of pace. I tried to stop and not put my arms out and he ran into me. There's not much you can do - I don't think it was a goalscoring opportunity."United's Ryan Gauld capped a magnificent display with a goal and said: "I'm pretty annoyed with myself I didn't score more than one because I had a few chances. But the most important thing was the team got four. I just try to enjoy it when I'm playing, that's the most important thing. Everybody was excellent today, we needed to be to beat a decent Ross County team, so everybody is really happy. It's a really tight team this year, a lot of young players - a lot of competition for places. If you are in the team you need to put up a good show or someone else will be there to take your place."
