Conway called up by Scotland

Dundee United's Craig Conway has been called into the Scotland squad for the Carling Nations Cup opener against Northern Ireland on Wednesday.

Conway was drafted in after boss Craig Levein saw Darren Fletcher, Lee McCulloch and Graham Dorrans drop out.

Wigan defender Gary Caldwell also remains a doubt with a cheekbone injury and will be assessed by the medical team.

Speaking of Conway's addition, assistant manager - and Dundee United boss - Peter Houston joked: "I had nothing to do with it!

"Craig's form last season was great and he almost got a move down south before he got injured. He's got pace and power and is a good crosser of the ball.

"It was without my influence at all. He's deserved it and he's fit and ready for it."

Levein has yet to decide who will wear the armband in the absence of Fletcher and is likely to name his replacement skipper on Tuesday.

Houston added: "It's the height of the season but look at the small number of call-offs. Darren Fletcher never misses games so we know he must be injured.

"We've only got one or two this time, whereas in the past we've had seven or eight. "

Meanwhile, Houston revealed that Allan McGregor is likely to start in goal.
