City's Leanne Hits 100

What an incredible few days it has been for Glasgow City's Leanne Ross.

Last Thursday Leanne Ross was presented with her 75th cap for Scotland and then went on to help the national team defeat the Republic of Ireland 2-1 in dramatic fashion in the UEFA Women's European Championship 2011-13 Qualifiers. On Sunday she was part of a City team who emphatically beat Kilmarnock 15-1 to remain top of the Scottish Women’s Premier League as the Champions aim to win their sixth consecutive League title. To add to this, the midfielder chipped in with a remarkable six goals in City’s victory, taking her all time League goal scoring tally for City to 100 goals. Not too bad when you consider she has only ever started 82 League games for Glasgow City.

Head coach Eddie Wolecki Black was quick to praise the player he brought from Newburgh to City four years ago. He said: "I think it’s fair to say that Leanne has made an immense contribution to this club during her time here. To score a hundred league goals in 4 years for a striker would be a great return, but the fact we are talking about a midfielder puts her achievement into perspective. The most pleasing thing is that I can recall her scoring all types of goals. She has scored free kicks, penalty kicks, headers, volleys, right foot, left foot, tap ins, lobs and long range efforts. Leanne would be the first to admit her team mates have helped her hugely to achieve this fantastic landmark. However she has been a dedicated player off the park and this has helped her maintain her level of play for so long. Hopefully she will continue to add to her total over the coming weeks and months."
