Glasgow City moved to the top of the Premier League today following a 9-0 win over Aberdeen at Petershill. Following the Dons result last week against Hamilton, City knew this was going to be a tough game, but took control from the first whistle and never really looked back, which undoubtedly pleased Head Coach Eddie Wolecki Black.He said: "I am really happy. I thought our passing and movement was excellent today. I felt in Aberdeen, we have overcome a great addition to the League. They are a fit and athletic side and perhaps they were unlucky to catch on us on a day like today. We showed great patience and kept the ball really well and created lots of chances. The team also came through the match with no injuries which is also pleasing. We now wish our A squad players the best of luck against the Republic of Ireland next week and Eilish the best of luck away with the Under 19’s in Russia." (c)Andy Buist On a great sunny day at Petershill Park, City thought they had got off to an explosive start when Leanne Ross had the ball in the back of the net in under 60 seconds, but the assistant blew for offside. However, it took only a further five minutes for City to take the lead officially when a great ball from Eilish McSorley found the perfect run of Jo Love and the City midfielder lobbed the out-rushing Sangster in the Aberdeen goals to put City ahead.A few minutes later Sangster pulled off a great save to deny Amy McDonald from close range and from the resultant corner, Jo Love shot just wide.Christie Murray twisted and turned outside the area before releasing a high shot which was again well saved by Sangster as the Dons keeper tried to keep her team in the game. Next to try her luck for City was Scotland striker Jane Ross who cut inside from the left and beat two players before unleashing a powerful shot which flew just over the bar.McSorley and Love combined again to almost find the net once more, before Julie Melrose added to City’s lead on 26 minutes shooting into the far corner after being set up by Christie Murray.Another couple of chances came and went for City, as Leanne Ross and Rachel Corsie both went within inches of extending the home side’s lead, before Jane Ross got her second of the game and City’s third as she took on the defender on the touchline before firing a great low shot into the far bottom corner. (c) Andy Buist It should perhaps have been 4-0 with Leanne Ross left feeling she could have done better with only the keeper to beat. However, Jane Ross once more found the way to goal when Christie Murray fired a low ball across the 6 yard box which Jane Ross fired low under the keeper to take the score to 4-0 for the home side.The in-form City striker soon made it her third hat trick in three games when she reacted first to Sangster’s fine save of a Rachel Corsie shot, to finish into the unguarded net.
Half time 5-0City were quick out the blocks in the second half with Eilish McSorley and Jo Love combining once more for another sublime goal. Similar to the opener, McSorley played an inch perfect pass to find Love’s run behind the defence, allowing the Scotland midfielder to control the ball before lifting it once more over Sangster.Another McSorley pass, this time found Melrose, but her header went wide. Leanne Ross almost got on the scoresheet as she rounded the goalkeeper, only to be denied by a last minute excellent tackle by the Dons defence.Substitute Lisa Evans showed her impact on the game when she scored number six, getting on the end of a defence splitting pass from Emma Fernon, before slotting past the keeper into the far corner of the net.Evans then scored again, showing her pace to get to the ball before the keeper, before taking it around Sangster to score.With fifteen minutes left to play, Nicola Docherty was denied her first City goal as her left foot shot struck the post. Christie Murray was then brought down in the box resulting in a penalty to City, which Leanne Ross stepped up to take, only for Sangster to make a good save.Another substitute, Ciara Barnes was on the scoresheet as she hit number nine with a thumping shot from inside the box.
