Glasgow City now progress to showdown with PK-35

Glasgow City beat Moldovan Champions Noroc Nimoreni 11 – 0 today in their second Group 8 game to set up a showdown against Finland’s finest – PK–35 Vantaa, who also won their second game, 3-1 over WFC Osijek, whom City had defeated last Saturday.  City showed their ruthlessness in front of goal as early as four minutes when Leanne Ross was played in and rounded the 'keeper to score. Three minutes later and Jen Callaghan fired into the bottom left hand corner for her first ever European goal to make it 2-0 to City. Eilish McSorley made it 3-0 after the keeper was unable to hold a powerful Danica Dalziel free kick. On 16 minutes Nicola Docherty played in Jennifer Callaghan and although the 'keeper got down well to the shot, she couldn’t prevent Leanne Ross getting to the rebound and firing into the back of the net. McSorley got her second as she powered a header into the bottom corner to make it 5-0 and Dalziel volleyed in number 6 after a cross from Julie Melrose. Just before half time, Callaghan got her second of the match as she latched on to a short back pass, rounded the 'keeper and slotted into the empty net, making it 7-0 to the Scottish Champions at the break. City made three substitutions at half time, but the charge on the Moldovan goal continued and Katharina Linder got two goals in five minutes finishing well into the bottom corner on both occasions, making it 9-0 after only 54 minutes. Ashley McDonald marked her European debut with a goal on 79 minutes, heading home a Katharina Lindner cross to make it 10-0 and just before full-time Katharina Lindner got a hat-trick, beating the offside trap to race into the box and slot past the diving keeper, to make the final score 11-0. Thursday’s winner takes all game against PK – 35 Vantaa will kick off at 4pm UK time.
