Championship Ambition

Nigel Hasselbaink is not the first and will not be the last player using Scottish football as a stepping stone

Nigel Hasselbaink is looking south to further his carer before his current deal ends. The St Johnstone striker signed a two-year contract at the start of the current season but is looking to move in the summer. Hasselbaink does not want to move to League One as he believes he is capable of turning out in the Championship. He is convinced he can be a success at that level and is confident an opportunity will present itself if he continues to impress in the SPL.  Hasselbaink said: "I'm using these seasons as a springboard to England as that's where I'll play next so it's good I play in Scotland. Last summer there was interest from League One but that's beneath my level. I'd prefer to play in the Championship."
