Celtic Under Pressure

25 April 2010 09:33
It is usually Celtic applying the pressure so it will be interesting to see how the hurting Hoops side cope with a rampant Dundee United Dundee United's Garry Kenneth insists Celtic are the ones who will feel the pressure when they visit Tannadice today. Neil Lennon's side are still recovering from the Scottish Cup semi-final defeat by Ross County and they have they very real possibility of Rangers celebrating the SPL championship before they even kick-off against Hibs today. Kenneth and his team-mates still have high hopes of besting Celtic to second place in the final table but knows today's game is do or die for their Champions League chances. The said: "I'm fit and ready to play so hopefully I'll be involved against Celtic. Every game we've got at the moment is massive because they're against top sides and we're trying to go for second place. To do that we'll need to win on Sunday but it's possible. If we're at the top of our game and they let their standards slip then we can certainly win it. They won't be looking forward to coming here, I don't think anyone does these days. Walter Smith was happy to get away from Tannadice with a point the other week. That was a huge compliment to us and shows what other teams think about coming here. We still believe we can get second place and the lads have cup final places to fight for so everything will be intense right to the end of the season." Meanwhile, Kenneth insists speculation over who will be moving on is making Dundee United stronger. The Scotland squad defender is one of several Tannadice players linked with a big-money move this summer, with Birmingham and Blackpool said to be monitoring his progress. United's form this season has led to Rangers watching David Goodwillie, while Craig Conway and Morgaro Gomis are targets for Gordon Strachan's Middlesbrough. Kenneth, a lifelong United fan, has revealed the almost daily round of speculation are keeping spirits high in the dressing room and have provided a confidence boost to the players involved. He said: "When you read about other clubs being interested in you of course it gives you a boost. It shows you must be doing something right and are playing well. There has been speculation about a few of the lads. We have lots of players who can play at a higher level so it's not surprising. Goodie, Craig Conway and Morgaro have had it as well recently so there is a bit of banter flying around. Darren Dods is usually at the heart of it. Everyone thinks he's a quiet big guy but nothing could be further from the truth. But I'm just concentrating on my football. If something happens in the summer then it happens, if not I've got European football to look forward to. It would be a huge wrench to leave this club but we're speaking about something which hasn't happened yet. If someone comes in over the summer and the club accept an offer, then I'd have to sit down with my family and decide what to do."
