Calderwood Still Waiting For The Call

Jimmy Calderwood would like the Hibs job but is waiting to be asked Jimmy Calderwood has played down his chances of filling the vacancy created at Easter Road when John Hughes left the building. Hughes left by 'mutual consent' earlier this week after guiding the club to just one league win from their opening seven games. Calderwood is one of the leading contenders to fill the vacant Easter Road hot seat, but is yet to hear from the club. The 55-year-old believes Hibs supremo Rod Petrie will be keen to get a new man in as soon as possible and is of the belief that had he been in the frame he would have heard something. However, despite his chance of becoming Hibs' new manager fading, Calderwood has again praised the potential of the Edinburgh club due to their current playing squad and fan base. He said: "I've not heard anything from Hibs whatsoever and I would have thought the chairman would be trying to get things in place as soon as possible. They've got Kilmarnock in their next game and you'd think they'd have to get their manager in on Monday. I've heard nothing so I don't expect anything to come of that. Bookies' favourite or no bookies' favourite. It's a massive club. It's one of the big clubs in Scotland. They've got a massive following. They took 40,000 to the cup final a few years ago. It's sad obviously for John and Brian Rice, who are two wonderful lads and two very, very hard working lads. When Jim and I used to go down to England every week they were down there scouting for players and all that, so that's sad. From another point of view though it's a big, big club with possibilities. It's been a long, long time since they won a cup or anything, but the possibilities are there with the players they've got. It's a very, very interesting proposition, but you've got to be asked first." Editor Ger Harley (ger@scottishfitba.net)Admin Team (admin@scottishfitba.net)This is Scottish-Fitba.Net
