Calderwood May Be Feeling Pressure Now
There is a great need for Colin Calderwood to satisfy the Hibs fans with some wins and not platitudes about his desire to stay Ahead of the League Cup tie against Berwick Rangers, Hibs manager Colin Calderwood has siyed his strong working relationship with the Easter Road board as the key factor in him sticking in Edinburgh and turning down jobs in England. Calderwood was approached by Chris Hughton and Steve McClaren about heading south again and taking up an assistant post at Birmingham and Nottingham Forest, respectively. Hibs fans were unhappy about the speculation over their manager's future in the close and early part of the season. They are far from happy with his record in charge which has provided just nine wins but a staggering 20 defeats from 35 games. Things have to improve with Hearts the opposition on Sunday. If things do not work out tonight or on Sunday will no doubt increase the pressure on him, but he is banking on the strength of his working relationship with chairman Rod Petrie to weather the storm. Calderwood said after the loss to St Mirren a the weekend that he did not feel any pressure. This may be different come Sunday evening. Calderwood said: "The board are good people. It's a large part of the reason why I came here to work - and it had a huge part to play in why I stayed. It's the environment they create and the ability they give a manager to construct the team, impose his philosophy from the first team through to the academy. So that was the real reason. What I've found here is a fantastic atmosphere, from the people I work with to supporters. It has grown on me even more and given me a greater desire to be successful here. You could go into other environments but I knew there could be difficulties at Birmingham. You look at that and you assess that."
