Brown Wants Refs To Grow Up

27 November 2010 22:07
Ahead of tomorrow's game, Craig Brown asks for sanity from all concerned. Motherwell's Keith Lasley will return for tomorrow's game against Hearts after just missing out on last week's trip to St Mirren with a hamstring injury. Lasley suffered the injury in the 2-1 win over Dundee United last month. The game will be one of two to be played with overseas officials in charge as Scottish referees are on strike. Manager Craig Brown thinks the referees have gone about their protest the wrong way. He said: "We are embarrassing Scottish football. I bet you down in England they are having a laugh, every dressing room and every media man. I think the referees' association has embarrassed football in Scotland by taking this action because surely there are another five agencies they should have dealt with before going on strike. They should speak to the managers' union, Alex Smith, you will not get a more decent sensible guy. Speak to the players' union if they have a problem with players. Speak to the Scottish Football League, the SPL and the SFA. Having had the five agencies round the table and still feeling aggrieved, then go on strike. If they have issues with the press, they should speak to the president of the press association. Why do this without sitting round the table in a mature, sensible manner? What I would say to the referees is grow up please and sit round the table like men and talk to the various people with whom they feel they have a grievance.'' Hearts expect to have Ruben Palazuelos fit for selection after recovering from a knock which meant he missed training this week, but manager Jim Jefferies anticipates he will be able to play at Fir Park. Jason Thomson (ankle) remains a doubt, with Suso Santana (knee), Lee Wallace (knee), Andrew Driver (thigh) and David Obua (groin) still out. Ryan Stevenson hopes Hearts will get it right tomorrow against rivals for European qualification and claim a fifth straight win and a seventh win out of eight games. He said: "It will be a tough game. We always get tough games against Motherwell, but we're playing well just now. They're going to be up there come the end of the season looking for third or fourth spot and so are we, so it's a game we're looking to try to win - these are the games we're going to have to win if we're going to do anything this year.''
