Brown Fails To Tempt Anderson Back North

Russell Anderson wants to stay at Derby Craig Brown has failed in his efforts to bring Russell Anderson back to Pittodrie. The Derby County defender started his career with the Dons and made over 300 appearances for the club before leaving in 2007 for Sunderland. However, things did not go according to Anderson's plans as he struggled to make an impact at the Stadium of Light and has spent the past 18 months on the books of Derby. The season just ended has been a struggle for Anderson due to a number of injuries. Brown offered the chance to bring him back from Pride Park to his first club in the summer. Anderson, though, wants to stay with the Rams and the Aberdeen manager will now look elsewhere for the big-name signing he is keen on ahead of next season.  Brown said: "I spoke to Russell last week but was unable to persuade him to return. He would have been the stellar signing I am trying to get for our fans as he was an outstanding player here. The search for a big-name player goes on. I can assure the fans everything possible is being done to strengthen the squad, but I would rather make no signing than the wrong signing."
