Breiðablik Not An Unknown Quantity

Craig Brown is famous for his homework so he will know all his players need to know about Breiðablik. Motherwell will line up against Icelandic side at Fir Park tomorrow without Marc Fitzpatrick. The midfielder is slightly short of fitness after recovering from the hamstring injury that ended his season prematurely. He will not be ready in time for the  Steelmen's Europa League opener. However, former Charlton goalkeeper Darren Randolph is expected to make his competitive debut while Stevie Hammell should overcome a thigh knock. One player who can't wait for the game is John Sutton. He wants to make up for chances missed when Motherwell kick off their third consecutive season in European competition. Sutton said: “The one regret since I’ve been here is that perhaps we haven’t done ourselves justice in Europe. If we are going to get beaten then you have to go down fighting and impose yourself on the opposition, and I don’t think we’ve done that in previous years. This year we want to do that. We went to Bucharest last season and the atmosphere was amazing, and we are desperate for a good run in the Europa Cup, and there is a real allure of a top tie in the later rounds.”Sutton dismissed any thoughts that Motherwell will be walking into the game knowing next to northing about Ólafur Kristjánsson’s table-toppers. He said: "'Well will go into the game knowing all about the gifted Icelandic side. The manager and Greg have done a fantastic job getting information on the opposition for us, so we know they are a very good team, and we know that they are top of the league - but just like every other game we are focusing on ourselves, and we know if we play to our maximum we can go through. I’m not surprised (Breiðablik are confident). They are in great form and are three months into their season. It’s going to be a very tough game for us. Llanelli gave us a tough game last year and they were a part-time side. Breiðablik are a step up from that.” Editor Ger Harley (ger@scottishfitba net)Admin Team (admin@scottishfitba net)This is Scottish-Fitba.Net
