Brechin Get The Draw On St Johnstone

The two sides meet again on 22 March to see who meets Dundee Unted or Motherwell Brechin City's Rory McAllister is confident his side can still make it through to their first Scottish Cup semi-final. The striker earned a draw with St Johnstone as he scored twice in a pulsating game on Saturday. McAllister opened the scoring when he scored from the spot four minutes before the break, before Chris Millar and Danny Invincibile gave the SPL side the lead. However the former Inverness striker equalised 12 minutes from time to ensure his side will have another chance to progress to the last four of the competition. He said: "I thought we were unlucky with the goals that we conceded but we have got another crack at them next week, which will be another good match. We have to make sure we play at our best and if they aren't on top form we will have a chance." The plumber, who has scored 45 goals in 65 appearances for Brechin,  enjoyed testing himself against top-flight opposition. He said: "I just enjoy playing my football and it doesn't matter who it is against as long as you enjoy it. It was good playing against a higher level team and I thought I played well." McAllister's first goal came courtesy of a retaken penalty after Craig Molloy's dinked chip from the spot had been ruled out for encroachment. The striker went on: "I wanted to take the first one but as I had missed the last one I took I thought it was fair enough to let him take it. He obviously didn't want to take the second one as he had chipped it so I was happy to take the responsibility second time around. It was actually me that had gone into the box early for the first one and I think I did it on purpose so that I got to take the second one!" St Johnstone manager Derek McInnes was not convinced that Brechin deserved a penalty, saying that some of his players felt Neil Janczyk had gone to ground too easily under pressure from Murray Davidson. He said: "I haven't seen it again but I wasn't convinced at the time. I don't think the referee was convinced either if truth be told. I would need to see it again but the boys seemed adamant that he won the ball. I can see why the referee gave it though and they took both penalties well." And McInnes admitted he was glad to still be in the Scottish Cup following a tough game in very testing conditions. He added: "I didn't think the attitude was wrong in the first half, I just thought we didn't defend well enough. Normally defending properly is a huge part of our game so it made us a bit anxious. I thought we imposed ourselves a lot more on the game at the start of the second half. We had the best chance to win the game through Steven Reynolds at the end but I think Brechin deserved the draw."
