Both legs of the First Division play-off final between Brechin City and Cowdenbeath are to be broadcast live by BBC ALBA. The first leg takes place at Cowden's Central Park on Wednesday with a 1945 BST kick-off. Brechin are the hosts on Sunday with the game starting at 1500 BST. The Second Division play-off takes place at the same times, with Arbroath hosting Forfar Athletic in their first leg on Wednesday in what will be the first of two exciting Angus derbies. Brechin were surprise winners over Airdrie United, who finished second bottom in Division One and are now relegated winning both legs at Glebe Park and in Lanarkshire. Cowdenbeath - who finished third, five points ahead of Brechin during the league season - defeated second-top Alloa Athletic in their semi-final on Saturday. The two sides have one win each and had two draws in their four meetings so far this season. Cowden met Alloa for an astonishing 8th time this season on Saturday and recorded their first win against them with a 2-0 victory at Recreation Park for a 3-1 aggregate win.It is well known amongst Blue Brazilians that Cowden do best at the start of decades and once again the 'Beath have found a team worth watching at the start of a ten year period. In 1970 Cowden gained promotion to the old 18-team First Division (top league at the time) for the first time since the 1939. In 1981 they missed out on promotion by one point to a First Division which was the middle division in a three league set-up (SPL formed in mid-1970's). In 1992 Cowden moved up to Division One after a final day draw at Alloa and then in 2001 Craig Levein and assistant Gary Kirk saw Cowden out of Division 3 in runners-up spot. Now 2010 sees Cowden with a chance to move into the First Division for the first time since it became the second tier below the SPL in 1975.  Fife derbies against Raith and Dunfermline await while the team that pipped Cowden to the Second Division title in 1970, old rivals Falkirk, would make for another attractive match for Blue Brazilians. Dundee would also be on the league fixture list for Cowden for the first time since the 1970's if they went up.There is an issue over the increasingly ramshackle state of Cowdenbeath's Central Park ground and 'Beath may even end up ground-sharing with one of their Fife League rivals if promoted but for the moment Blue Brazilians have all eyes on the play-off final against Brechin. The First Division represents nose bleed territory for the team who played their first Scottish League game in 1905 and have been looked upon as perennial under-achievers in the Scottish game.
