Christophe Berra looks ahead to Scotland's international future. Christophe Berra considers Grant Hanley to have a big future at international level after after the youngster made his mark in the Carling Nations Cup. He made his international debut from the substitute bench in the 3-1 win over Wales last week. He then was promoted to start the game, alongside Berra in the heart of defence, against the Republic of Ireland on Sunday night. While the game was lost, Berra was impressed by his young defensive partner on the night. When asked about the young Blackburn centre-half, Berra said: "He is a young boy and I think he will do well. It was his first start and it will great for him. It will do him a world of good and you can see that he has a lot of potential. I'm sure we will see a lot more from him in the future." Berra was also satisfied with his own contribution in the two games in Dublin and hopes his good form continues for both club and country next season. The Wolves defender said: "I got my first goal in two or three years in the Wales game so that's a big thing. It's another couple of games at international level and more games to try and establish yourself. In the games I've played here, I thought I did well. From a personal point of view, I thought I was consistent. I just need to take that on and keep doing it for my club first and foremost and, if I do that, hopefully I can keep playing well for Scotland." The Carling Nations Cup earned mixed reviews as a result of low attendances at some of the games but Berra believes it was a worthwhile competition. He said: "From our own perspective, it's been very good. You could see there was a lot of improvement in our team and I think we deserved at least a draw from the game with the Republic. We dominated possession in the first half but they got their goal and started the second half better than us. Then I thought we pushed on and had some good chances." Looking ahead to the EURO2012 qualifiers against Czech Republic and Lithuania in September, Berra went on: "They are massive games for us but we have good footballers in the team. If we keep doing what we have done in these last two games and take that into the qualifiers, we've got a great chance of finishing second (in the group)."
