Ben Gunning For Celtic

Killie not there to just make up the numbers says Ben Gordon. Ben Gordon is determined to prove he and his Kilmarnock team-mates can hold their own against Celtic after being written off in some quarters. Kilmarnock have made a good start at defying the critics who claimed they would struggle this season by winning consecutive games against Aberdeen and St Mirren. The on-loan Chelsea left-back is enjoying the challenge of proving the doubters wrong and he is also keen to show up well personally when the SPL leaders and Sky TV cameras visit Rugby Park today. Gordon said: "At Chelsea, we go into the game wanting to win every game because we are the biggest team. Here, it's the opposite. But that puts more pressure on other teams. We go out under no pressure. The gaffer (Mixu Paatelainen) has told us to get the ball down and show everyone what we can do. I think so far we have shown a lot of people how good we can be this season. Against Rangers, in the papers before the game, people were saying that Kilmarnock are the favourites to go down. The gaffer said: 'Let's show them that we are not going to be the favourites to go down, let's show them what we can do'. Confidence is quite high, we have won the last three games. But Celtic haven't conceded a goal and won every game so they will be high on confidence. They will come at us and we might have to weather the storm for a bit, but we are going to get the ball down and show people we can play a bit too." Gordon has been happy to get the chance to do just that under Paatelainen's new regime, which was supplemented by the arrival of Portuguese striker Rui Miguel from CSKA Sofia this week. Gordon, on loan till the end of the season, said: "It's been very enjoyable. The gaffer has changed the style of the team to play more football, which I'm used to being from Chelsea, so it's suited me. The gaffer has come in and told the boys to get the ball down and play football, whereas the last few years it was long ball. I didn't really know what to expect. I had watched Scottish football on television but I had never been here before. Now I've played in it I think it's a high standard. It's going to be very hard for me to get in the Chelsea first team because you have Ashley Cole and Yuri Zhirkov and there are some more young players in front of me. I will just do as well as I can until January and see from there whether to extend it or go back and what Chelsea want as well. Chelsea are finding it hard to watch the games up here but the game will be live on Sky on Sunday so people from Chelsea will be able to watch and hopefully I can have a good game and show them what I can do."
