Bannan braced for Brazil test

Barry Bannan admits he has not stopped dreaming about the prospect of facing Brazil since the moment Scotland's friendly was confirmed.

The glamorous fixture, which takes place at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, was rubber-stamped by the Scottish Football Association last month. The match will be Scotland's first meeting with Brazil since the World Cup opener in 1998, and Bannan has revealed how the clash with the Samba stars has captured the imagination of everyone in the squad - as well as his immediate family.

The 21-year-old said: "As soon as the Brazil game was announced I was hoping I'd be in the squad and hopefully on the pitch and even start. I've been thinking about it since it was announced so I'm looking forward to it. Everyone is going to be up for the game."

He added: "As soon as the fixture was announced I think everyone just couldn't wait for it to come around. Now that it's come around everyone is looking forward to it."

Bannan, who joined Leeds United on loan from Aston Villa earlier this month, made his senior Scotland debut in a 3-0 win over the Faroe Islands in November.

Craig Levein's men then secured the same result over Northern Ireland in the Carling Nations Cup last month but Bannan is well aware that Brazil will be a completely different prospect.

He said: "Brazil speaks for itself and it's going to be a massive step up in class from what we've played in the last couple of games.

"But we've got a good bunch of lads, we are all young and the best parts of our careers are ahead of us.

"We are looking forward to seeing where we are as a country ourselves now and it will be a good test for us."
