Bamba Faces The Samba

03 June 2010 06:17
Sol Bamba will take on Brazil and Portugal in South Africa. Rather different to a cold Sunday in Aberdeen. Hibs' Sol Bamba is used to dealing with SPL standard players but come 15 June he will be lining up opposite Portugal including Cristiano Ronaldo hoping the get 'The Elephants' off to a good World Cup start. It is not as if it will get any easier for the Hibs man as also in the Ivory Coast's group are Brazil and North Korea. Sven-Goran Eriksson included Bamba's name in his final squad for South Africa. Eriksson will oversee his side's final game before the final when they play Japan tonight.  Bamba, capped 17 times, admitted he couldn't wait for the action to get going. Speaking from 'The Elephants' pre-tournament base in the French town of Evian-les-Bains on the shores of Lake Geneva, Bamba said: "I am very proud and happy," before acknowledging he and his teammates face plenty of hard work if they are to progress.Drawn in the "Group of Death," Bamba insisted that both he and Manchester City's Kolo Toure, his partner in a central defence which conceded just six goals in 12 World Cup qualifying games, are up to the task. He said: "I do feel I have a good partnership with Kolo. We had a good defensive record during qualifying and I also played all of the African Cup of Nations matches beside him. For me it's a pleasure to play beside Kolo because he has so much experience. He's also fantastic at talking to me during games and afterwards too, just to give me some advice."
