Any Port In A Snow Storm

St Johnstone have been thinking on their feet to keep their players up to scratch St Johnstone manager Derek McInnes has had to try and keep tabs on his players training efforts in order to beat the adverse weather conditions. Perth has been one of the hardest hit areas in Scotland and the squad have used facilities available close to their homes to maintain fitness rather than add to the traffic problems. McInnes and his staff have had to improvise in order to keep the Saints players ticking over and that has meant similar work-outs but in different gyms. All this was put in place before the weekend's SPL card was pulled.McInnes said: "Monday was a no-no. Perth is at the centre of the worst weather so we used more local gyms on Tuesday to take the travelling out of the equation. I was at a Glasgow gym with the boys from the west of Scotland. Tony Docherty was with the boys from Perth and Dundee. Gordon Marshall, the keeper's coach, is with the Edinburgh-based players and Alec Cleland is taking the guys from the Stirling area. We were all doing the same circuits and spin sessions. On Wednesday we have a five-a-side hall booked in Perth although some might find it difficult to travel. On Thursday we have booked the indoor centre at Toryglen, near Hampden which will give us the chance to have a couple of hours' work. On Friday we will be back at Perth but it's meant to be minus eight that day. If the weather is still as bad then it could be difficult getting everyone there again and the temperatures don't increase then we will struggle to get the game ahead on Saturday. It's not so much the pitch because we have undersoil heating, it's the roads and surrounding areas. But we have to try to prepare as best we can."
