Another Signing For City

Glasgow City are still the team to beat in the league and added another player to their squad to make it hard for the opposition.

Glasgow City have announced the signing of midfielder Emily Thomson who joins the current League leaders having left Celtic last month and becomes the first key signing ahead of City’s Champions League campaign which starts in August. Since leaving Celtic, Emily has been training with City and officially put pen to paper today and will make her debut against Falkirk next Sunday. The young midfielder left her home town of Motherwell  in 2009 to sign for Arsenal, but returned to Scotland two years later to attend Stirling University as part of the Scottish FA National Football Academy, which allows the nation’s brightest young talents to combine further education with a daily football regime. Emily has been a long term target for Glasgow City and Head Coach Eddie Wolecki Black is delighted to finally secure her signature. He said: "They say that patience is a virtue, well Emily certainly tested mine. It is no secret that I tried to sign her 2 years ago when she first arrived back in Scotland from Arsenal and I attempted to get her again last year. Therefore it is fair to say I am a happy man to finally get her signature. Make no mistake Emily will be a very important player for this club.  Over the years we have signed a few new players and most take a few weeks and others a few months to cope with the demands and intensity of our training sessions. Emily is in a new category, the one that copes from the outset. Her levels of fitness are very high and her ability to get about the park will improve the dynamics of the team greatly. She is technically efficient, has good vision, is always at training and is not afraid of hard work, a very good combination at this club. I look forward to helping Emily develop her game at Glasgow City and hopefully she will help us to more success at home and in Europe."Yesterday, before putting pen to paper, Emily said: "I am looking forward to signing with Glasgow City FC. I have been training with the club for the last four weeks and I have been really impressed by the commitment shown by everyone. The attraction of playing with so many experienced international players will be good for my own personal development.  I feel that my transition has been smooth and both the players and staff have made me feel very welcome. The expectations and demands of City are extremely high and the current atmosphere leading up to the Champions League is exciting and I'm genuinely 'buzzing' to start playing!"
