Alexei Eremenko Could be Finnished

A loan cut short is a possibility for Kilmarnock Finnish midfielder Alexei Eremenko could be leaving Killie, where he has been so influential, in the January transfer window. The playmaker joined the Rugby Park side back in August and turned in another polished display in his side's 1-1 draw against Dundee United on Saturday. But the Finnish international, who is on loan from Ukrainian outfit Metalist Kharkiv, admits he could leave Mixu Paatelainen's side early. He said: "Many things depend on Metalist. It is a possibility that they could recall me in January or sell me on. I'm enjoying my time here and the team is doing great so I'm not thinking about it too much. I will see what happens in January but right now I'm concentrating on doing my best here."Eremenko joins up with his national side for their European Championships Group E qualifier against San Marino on Wednesday. And the midfielder thinks Killie boss Paatelainen is the ideal candidate to replace the recently departed Stuart Baxter. Eremenko added: "I haven't heard anything about it but maybe I will this week. He, of course, has the quality to do the job as he knows the European style of football as well as the Finnish people and their mentality. It is a different case for me as I will have him with the national team if he does get the job or I will have him here if he stays."Dundee United midfielder Johnny Russell has been inspired by David Goodwillie's recent call-up to the Scottish national team. Russell, who scored his second ever goal for United to cancel out Conor Sammon's opener for Kilmarnock, is delighted for team-mate Goodwillie who could win his first senior cap against the Faroes Islands tomorrow. He said: "You can tell by the way he is playing and his record of goals that he is in brilliant form just now. To see somebody who has come through the youth system like myself getting that recognition does give you a wee boost. It shows that Craig Levein is looking at younger players but Goody deserves his chance."Russell is also on international duty this week following his first ever call-up to the Scotland Under-21 squad who face Northern Ireland in a friendly on Wednesday. He added: "I'm delighted to get in the squad for the first ever time. The goal against Kilmarnock was my first league goal and my first at Tannadice so it has been a really good week. Hopefully I can keep getting games for United and getting myself in positions to score goals." Editor Ger Harley (ger@scottishfitba net)Admin Team (admin@scottishfitba net)This is ScottishFitba Net
