Albion Rovers recorded their first win of the season by beating Queen's Park 2-1 at Cliftonhill this afternoon. It was Queen’s who made the early running and Graeme Eaglesham had a couple of chances to open the scoring. His first chance came after only two minutes and he headed over a Ricky Little cross. He then sent a free header over from a Paul Harkins corner mid way through the half. They had also come close when Craig Smith headed a Martyn McBride cross into the arms of Derek Gaston. The best player on the park at this stage was Bobby Love of the Rovers and he started to get more involved. He side footed a Paul McLeod cross wide and then saw another cleared off the line by Little.Love set up the opening goal in 32 minutes, he burst down the left and his cross picked out Chris Hamilton to score from close range.Queen’s made more chances at the start of the second half and once again Eaglesham missed another chance when he saw a volley blocked by the back of Alan Reid. He was soon replaced by Jamie Longworth and his first involvement saw him miss a sitter when he turned a shot wide from about 8 yards out. With about twenty minuets left Queen’s had another great chance but Ian Watt’s shot bounced clear off the cross bar.As often happens Rovers went up the park and made it two nil. McLeod flicked a throw in into the path of Hamilton and once again his first time effort left the keeper helpless.  The home side were given a scare in stoppage time when they gave away a penalty. Harkins shot was stopped by the arm of Alan Benton allowing McBride to score from the spot. The Rovers did see out the five minutes of stoppage time to record that first win of the season.Queen’s Boss Gardiner Speirs was disappointed with the number of chances missed by his side. He said: "We created more chances in the game, but fair play to Rovers they took theirs. We made enough chances to win the game but we need to start taking them. Also, we can’t wait to start playing in the second half of games."Paul Martin of the Rovers had a different slant on what happened during the 90 minutes when he said: "We were dominant in the first half, we were streets ahead of them but we allowed them into the game in the second. We played better last week and lost and this game should have been more comfortable and I felt we were better over the piece and deserved the win."Rovers: Gaston, Reid, McGowan, Boyle (Kerr – 51), Benton, Lumsden, Love (Gemmell – 67), Stevenson, McLeod (Smith – 76), Canning, Hamilton.
