Alba Cup Starts The Season For The Doonhamers

Kenny Brannigan and Paul Martin will lock managerial horns in Dumfries today SF.net will be travelling to Dumfries today to take in the Alba Cup game between Queen of the South and Albion Rovers. The Doonhamers have goalkeeping problems as Roddy McKenzie and David Hutton are both out injured. Queens' manager Kenny Brannigan has still to decide which of  former Rangers youngster Lee Robinson and Gretna shot-stopper Alex Mitchell will be given the gloves for the start of the game. Brannigan will also have to do without defender David Lilley and striker Sean O’Connor, but he will be able to call on new recruits Ryan McGuffie, Daniel Carmichael and Allan Johnston. Brannigan said: "I have watched Albion Rovers a couple of times and I know that they are a good side that like to play attractive football. I have told the players that I want the club to progress as far as we can in this tournament." Albion Rovers boss Paul Martin has had to change his tactics for the game as winger Chris Boyle suffered a hamstring injury in training on Thursday. He could be replaced by Darren Dalrymple, a recent signing from Kilsyth Rangers. Paul McLeod, who was freed at the end of last season, has been brought back to the club by Martin who has also given a month long deal to Fauldhouse striker Ian Smith New signing John Gemmell is not match fit yet and he will miss out along with the injured Terence Dignam and the unavailable Steven Greenlees.
