Many pitches were criticised last year. How long before Airdrie's new artifical one catches the wrath of a player or manager? Jimmy Boyle’s Airdrie United took on a young Motherwell side to fully test the new artificial surface at the Excelsior Stadium on Monday night. The bounce game allowed the men from Fir Park to notch up a 3-2 win but Airdrie won as well as now they know their new pitch can handle football in the raw. There were some doubts over the playability after Aidrie's first game of the season had to be moved to Alloa. This was de to the heavy rain that fell throughout July delaying the pitch laying being completed on time. However, it's green light for go for the first league fixture when Ayr United come calling on Saturday, 14 August. Stadium Manager Alastair Cameron said: “Everything is now good for go for 5, 7 and 11 a-side matches at the Excelsior.” Editor Ger Harley (ger@scottishfitba net)Admin Team (admin@scottishfitba net)This is Scottish-Fitba Net
